Step 1: The Spark — A Mood, A Memory, A Muse
Every Maeq fragrance starts with an idea. Sometimes, it’s a memory — like the scent of mystery (Ombre Mystique), or a cozy café afternoon (Café Pom Caramel). Other times, it’s a feeling — wanderlust, serenity, intrigue. We don’t create scents just for the sake of smelling good — we craft them to make you feel something.

Step 2: Moodboard & Storyline
We build a visual world around the idea — color palettes, textures, references to nature, art, even sound. This becomes our moodboard. From here, we write the “scent story” — a poetic brief that our perfumers use as a compass while creating the formula.
Step 3: Working With the Perfumer
We collaborate with expert perfumers who understand the soul of storytelling. Using the scent brief, they begin formulating — choosing from a palette of natural essential oils, absolutes, resins, and IFRA-compliant safe synthetics. It’s like composing a song with notes: top, heart, and base.
The process involves:
- Trial blends (also called mods)
- Tweaking concentrations
- Balancing the pyramid structure
- Testing on skin and strips over time
Some formulas take weeks. Others take months. The goal? A fragrance that feels effortless, but says something.
Step 4: Maceration & Maturation
Once the formula is final, the blend is mixed with alcohol and left to macerate — a resting phase where the fragrance “settles.” This ensures the scent is stable, smooth, and long-lasting.
We never rush this phase. Maturation allows the notes to harmonize, much like wine aging in a barrel.
Step 5: Testing, Tweaking, Tuning
We test each fragrance on real skin, in real weather, with real people. Why? Because how a scent evolves in Mumbai summer heat is different from a Delhi winter breeze.
If a note feels too sharp or too soft, we tweak. If the sillage isn’t right, we reformulate. Every drop is considered.
Step 6: The Bottle & Beyond
Once the juice is ready, it’s poured into our signature Maeq bottles — minimal, modern, tactile. Each fragrance gets its name, artwork, and story card. Nothing is off-the-shelf. Everything is curated.
